The Laboratory Notebook

Victor Frankenstein records every storm, every assistant and every grievance. His creature has started writing back. Newest pages first.

In short: Victor Frankenstein, the captor in Frankenstein Resurrection, records his stormy experiment here in a pompous hand, and the creature he wakes every hour answers back in the margins. Every page is invented for laughs, spoils no puzzle and links straight to true details about the room.

The facts behind the notebook

Victor Frankenstein is the doctor in Frankenstein Resurrection, a gothic horror escape room designed, built and run by Escape This at Escape This Northbridge and Escape This Sydney CBD. He holds your group captive on a stormy night and frees you only if you help wake his creature before the last lightning strike.

Escape This makes the notebook up. Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel lends the doctor and his creature; the notebook hands the creature a pencil and lets him pick his own name. Nobody real appears in it, nothing in it really happened, and it solves nothing for you.

Whatever sits outside the doctor’s voice, from the 13+ rule and pacemaker warning to fares and how many assistants fit each laboratory, is taken from Escape This’s own booking and game systems and updated on this site.

FAQ

About the Laboratory Notebook

Who is scribbling in the margins of the doctor’s notebook?

The doctor’s creature, in the story. Escape This imagines him, the body under the sheet in Frankenstein Resurrection, waking each time a group succeeds, teaching himself to read from the doctor’s journals and growing more articulate with every page. He calls himself Percy; the doctor refuses to. Both are fictional, borrowed from Mary Shelley’s novel, and the margin notes are written by Escape This for fun.

Are any of the dates in Victor Frankenstein’s notebook real?

The openings are. Frankenstein Resurrection opened at Escape This Northbridge on 20 March 2025 and at Escape This Sydney CBD on 1 October 2025, according to Escape This’s booking records, and Melbourne CBD is set for 1 March 2027. The pages for those days carry those dates; every other date was picked for the story.

How often does the doctor add a page to his notebook?

Roughly monthly. New pages of the Laboratory Notebook appear on their dates through 2027, each about a different side of Frankenstein Resurrection, such as costumes, big groups, access or hints, and the creature’s margin notes become more eloquent as the year goes on.
